Sonos One gets Alexa support in Australia

While the Sonos One has been available Down Under since early this year, the voice-enabled speaker launched without any, erm, voice support in Australia. That changes today, however. Sonos has released a free software update that will allow Australian owners of the speaker to enable Amazon's Alexa assistant on the device, with the firmware side of things handled directly via the companion app. Joining the US, Canada, the UK and Germany, Australian Sonos One will now be able to issue Alexa commands and have their speaker perform many common AI-assistant tasks, the notable exception being...

When Sonos introduced the new Sonos One back in October, the company confirmed it would add AirPlay 2 support to Sonos speakers later in 2018.
At the time, Sonos did not specify which of its devices would support the new protocol, but Sonos appears to have offered some clarification in the form of new details provided to Mac Observer .
Mac Observer says native AirPlay 2 support will be available on the Playbase, the newest version of the Play:5, and the Sonos One.

Sonos previously teased AirPlay 2 support for its speakers. In a new announcement to MacObserver, the story is a little bit more nuanced. The company has said that AirPlay 2 will only be compatible with the Sonos One , Sonos Play:5 and the Playbase. Older speakers will not natively support AirPlay 2.
The launch date for AirPlay 2 remains unclear. The whole-home audio solution continues to show up in developer seeds of iOS, but Apple has not provided a specific timeline since it was delayed. Clearly, Sonos are actively working on it however...
