Google To Add Peer-To-Peer Shared Apps To Play Libraries

Play-approved apps that are shared peer-to-peer will soon automatically authenticate and be added to user libraries, with the changes to allow that rolling out beginning June 19. That's according to a recent Android Developers post from Google and will be accomplished using small metadata packets added on top of APKs distributed via the Play Store. What that means is that the Google Play Store will be able to determine whether an application installed on a device was downloaded and installed from the official Android app store or sideloaded. In some countries where internet connectivity isn't that good, it makes the installation of apps straight from the Google Play Store "iffy." As a result, Android owners share APKs offline as a way to install apps on their devices. The problem doing this is that these apps could be contagious since they are not equipped with Google Play security, even if the original came from the Google Play Store.
